Dr. Richard R. Pence, DDS, MAGD, PA

Dr. Pence received his bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University, and his doctorate from the UNC School of Dentistry. He received his Mastership in General Dentistry in 1992, and has just been named the first dentist in the Carolinas to receive the prestigious Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition Award from the Academy of General Dentistry. The Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition is presented only to qualifying Masters of the AGD. Mastership is one of the most respected designations in dentistry. Masters who receive this additional recognition have met the highest criteria for professional excellence. To receive the Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition, Dr. Pence completed more than 1,600 hours of continuing dental education in the 16 disciplines of dentistry, including 550 hours dedicated to hands-on skills and techniques and more than 200 hours of service to the community.

He has maintained a full time practice in Lincolnton since 1971, and has a new office in Denver, NC. He currently serves as Consulting Faculty and has served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education. He is a Fellow in the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. Dr. Pence has been selected by a vote of his peers to be included in the 2005 edition of The Best Dentists in America (sm). He is currently serving as President of the UNC Dental School Alumni Association. He has served as a member of the Lincoln County Board of Education, as Elder in the Presbyterian Church, and as Lincolnton Rotary Club’s delegate to the International Meeting. He is married with two sons. The older son, Alex, was a John Motley Morehead Award winner, a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, and a graduate of the UNC School of Dentistry. Alex finished a General Practice Residency at UNC, and is a dentist with the Biltmore Dental Group in Asheville. The younger son, Canon, attended Oxford University, Columbia University, and was a summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. Canon is currently service as editor of the International Law Journal and is a 3rd year student at the UNC School of Law. Canon has accepted a position as a litigator with the International Law Firm, Hunton & Williams.

There are very few instances where replacing natural teeth with false teeth or dentures works to the benefit of the individual. With the technical advances in the field of dentistry today, so many existing negative conditions can be directly addressed and corrected physically or visually along with the restoration of proper functioning.
